CLUB PRESIDENT
CLUB CHAIRMAN PHIL SHARPLES

Queensbury CC was formed on 1 January 2000 as a result of the merger of two local clubs - Union Croft CC and Yews Green CC. As the only remaining cricket club in the village the name Queensbury CC was adopted. It should be noted that there is no connection to the now defunct former Bradford League team of the same name.

The Old Guy Road ground, at nearly 1200 feet above sea level, is believed to be one of, if not the, highest in the country on which regular league cricket is played. Panoramic views down the Calder Valley to Stoodley Pike and across to the former Emley Moor television transmitter are aforded from all parts of the ground. It is rumoured (??) that on a clear day Blackpool Tower can be seen from the roof of the club house!

In November 2013 the Lockley Lounge was opened by locally born Yorkshire County cricketer Alex Lees. This major improvement to the facilities at Old Guy Road provides a comfortable setting for after match socialising with all spectators and visiting teams assured of a warm welcome.

The club fields three senior teams in the Spenser Wilson Halifax Cricket League - two on a Saturday and one in the Sunday League.

The 2017 season saw the first team relegated from the Premier Division to the Roy Smith First Division whilst the second team performed above expectation and finished third in the Roy Smith Second Teams First Division, missing out on promotion when frustrated by the weather on the last day of the season. 2018 sees Joshua Dougall taking charge of a young first team and Phil Sharples stepping down to captain a second team which will again contain several outstanding junior players. The Sunday League team had a disappointing season results-wise, but once again provided a platform for the development of young players. After several years sterling service as skipper Martin Reppion has returned to Southowram CC and Dave Womersley takes the reins in 2018. .
The club is fighting hard to resurrect its junior section, taking part in the ALL STARS project 2017 and 2018. All youngsters (boys and girls) from 5 upwards are invited to come to the club on a Friday night (6.30 pm) and take part in cricketing activities.

During the season senior nets are held on a Tuesday, starting at 6.30 pm.In addition to  the official practice night, several ECBCA Level 2 coaches, two state of the art artificial nets, and a Bola bowling machine are available to club members at ANY reasonable (!!) time.

If you live locally and would like to play top quality amateur cricket come along on a Tuesday evening or give Neil Myers a call on 01274 882971.
